New Delhi: The opposition INDIA bloc leaders and some independents will move a motion of impeachment against Allahabad High Court Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav over his controversial remarks during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) function on December 8. As per the rules, the signatures of at least 50 lawmakers are required in the upper house for consideration of an impeachment motion . "We have got 55 signatures and we will move it on Friday. We are in discussion with members of all the INDIA bloc parties and independents who have signed the motion to join us in moving the motion," Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha told ET. During his speech at a VHP function on December 8, Justice Yadav said that this country belongs to bahusankhayaks (majority) and only a Hindu can make this country a Vishwa Guru. GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Defending the run has been one of the Green Bay Packers’ weaknesses over the last several years. Not so much lately, though. Green Bay limited San Francisco to 16 carries for 44 yards in a 38-10 rout of the 49ers on Nov. 24, with two-time All-Pro Christian McCaffrey gaining 31 yards on 11 attempts. Four nights later, the Packers beat Miami 30-17 by holding the Dolphins to 39 yards on 14 carries. It was the first time since 1995 — and only the second time since 1950 — that the Packers had allowed fewer than 45 yards rushing in back-to-back games within the same season. “I think we’re playing harder and harder each week,” first-year defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley said. “And that’s how you play good defense.” That defense needs to be at its best Thursday as the Packers (9-3) close a stretch of three games in 12 days by visiting the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions (12-1), who have the NFL’s highest-scoring offense thanks in part to a rushing attack featuring the speedy Jahmyr Gibbs and the physical David Montgomery. “Gibbs is a great running back,” defensive lineman Kenny Clark said. “I really think the offense really starts with him, honestly. He can do everything — receive, in-and-out runner, can do stretch, duo plays. We’ve got to have all hands on deck with Gibbs. And then Montgomery, he’s a great complement to him. He can do everything, also.” The Lions were the first team since the 1975 Miami Dolphins to rush for at least 100 yards and a touchdown in each of their first 11 games. The streak ended on Thanksgiving when the Lions rushed for 194 yards but didn’t have a touchdown on the ground in a 23-20 victory over the Chicago Bears. Green Bay outrushed Detroit 138-124 in the Packers’ 24-14 loss to the Lions on Nov. 3 at Lambeau Field. Montgomery rushed for 73 yards while Gibbs ran for 65 yards and a touchdown. Gibbs has 973 yards this season, which ranks fourth in the NFL. Montgomery ran for a combined 192 yards and four touchdowns in the Lions’ two games against the Packers last season. Green Bay’s run defense has come a long way since. The Packers have allowed 106.6 yards rushing per game this season, which ranks eighth in the league. The Packers haven’t closed a season in the top 10 in run defense since 2016 and have finished outside the top 20 in four of the last six years, including 26th in 2022 and 28th in 2023. “I think Haf’s doing a good job of mixing up the fronts and some of the coverages, but really it’s ultimately about tackling, swarming, getting many hats to the football,” Packers coach Matt LaFleur said. “And our guys have really embraced that style of play.” The Packers are yielding 4.2 yards per carry to rank seventh in the league after finishing 22nd or worst in that category each of the last three seasons. They haven’t closed a season ranked in the top 10 in yards allowed per carry since 2017. Hafley says the improvement starts up front. “The interior part of our D-line has done such a good job these last few games,” Hafley said. “They really have. They’re hard to block. They’re staying in their gaps. They’re tearing off of blocks, and it’s the same thing with those defensive ends. They’re setting edges, they’re forcing the ball back inside, they’re getting off blocks and then we’re tackling and we’re running to the ball and there’s multiple people to the ball. “And when you turn on our tape right now and when you freeze it, you see that. Many organizations using Web application firewall (WAF) services from content delivery network (CDN) providers may be inadvertently leaving their back-end servers open to direct attacks over the Internet because of a common configuration error. The problem is so pervasive that it affects nearly 40% of Fortune 100 companies leveraging their CDN providers for WAF services, according to researchers at Zafran who studied the cause and scope of the problem recently. Among the organizations that the researchers found susceptible to attacks included recognizable brands, including Chase, Visa, Intel, Berkshire Hathaway, and UnitedHealth. WAFs act as intermediaries between users and Web applications. They inspect traffic for a range of threats and block or filter anything deemed suspicious or matching known patterns of malicious activity. Many organizations have deployed WAFs in recent years to protect Web applications against vulnerabilities they haven't had time to patch. Organizations have multiple options for deploying WAFs, including on-premises in the form of physical or virtual appliances. There are also cloud- and host-based WAFs. In total, Zafran found some 2,028 domains belonging to 135 companies among the Fortune 1000 that contain at least one supposedly WAF-protected server that an attacker could directly access over the Internet to launch denial-of-service (DoS) attacks, distribute ransomware, and execute other malicious activities. "The responsibility [for] the misconfiguration lies primarily [with] the customers of CDN/WAF providers," says Ben Seri, chief technology officer of Zafran. But CDN providers who offer WAF services share some responsibility as well for failing to offer customers proper risk avoidance measures and for not building their networks and services to circumvent misconfigurations in the first place, he says. The problem, as Seri explains it, has to do with organizations not adequately validating Web requests to back-end origin servers that host the actual content, applications, or data that users are trying to access. With a CDN-integrated WAF service, the CDN provider — like a Cloudflare or an Akamai — provides the WAF as part of its edge infrastructure. All incoming traffic to an organization's Web applications is routed through the CDN's WAF — a reverse proxy server within the vendor's edge network. The reverse proxy identifies which back-end server or resource a particular Web request is intended for and then routes it there in an encrypted fashion. "This means that when a CDN service is used as a WAF, the web application it protects is open to Internet traffic and is expected to validate that it responds only to web traffic that originates from and by the CDN service," according to the Zafran blog post. If the customer is using best practices, the IP address of the back-end server is something that only the customer and CDN provider would know. CDN providers also recommend that organizations add IP filtering mechanisms to ensure that only requests from the CDN provider's IP address range are permitted access to back-end servers. Other recommendations include using pre-shared digital secrets known only to the CDN provider and the back-end server as a validation mechanism, and using what is known as mutual TLS authentication to validate both the origin server and the CDN provider's proxy server. These measures are effective in protecting back-end servers when implemented correctly. But what Zafran discovered was that many organizations have not adopted any of these recommended validation precautions, thereby leaving back-end servers directly accessible over the Internet. "It is a lack of validation in Web applications that are designed to be protected by a CDN/WAF that leaves them open to all Internet traffic," Seri says. "It is like having a private S3 bucket left open to the Internet as a public bucket. Only in this case, it is protected Web applications that are left open to the Internet, instead of allowing only inbound traffic from the CDN provider." Exacerbating the situation is the fact that the IP addresses of enterprise origin services are not as private as many assume, Zafran's researchers found. The security vendor pointed to certificate transparency (CT) logs as one example of a relatively easy place for attackers and researchers to discover all domains belonging to a specific organization. CT logs provide a publicly accessible record of all SSL/TLS certificates that certificate authorities issue to website operators and are meant to improve trust and accountability around certificate issuance. Unfortunately, they also provide a starting point for attackers to gather detailed information on all the domains and subdomains belonging to an organization, including those associated with critical back-end servers and services. "The issue was discovered to be extremely widespread," Seri says. "From a random sample of Internet servers that were designed to be protected by Cloudflare, 13% were found to suffer from this misconfiguration. This means that, potentially, 13% of all domains protected by Cloudflare can be directly attacked." Unfortunately, CDN/WAF providers require the cooperation of their customers, who control their own load balancers and Web applications, to mitigate this threat, he adds. Zafran is contacting affected companies as well as impacted CDN/WAF providers to help them quickly identify the full extent of this misconfiguration and address it, Seri says. Amber Heard Breaks Silence On Blake Lively’s SHOCKING Sexual Harassment Allegations Against Justin BaldoniOTTAWA — The Israeli expert leading a civilian commission into sexual violence by Hamas is calling for global bodies to recognize "a new crime against humanity" involving violence targeted at families. Cochav Elkayam-Levy said the world should take a stance against the destruction of families as a specific, identifiable weapon of war, aimed at terrorizing one's kin. She is proposing the crime be called "kinocide." In an interview, she also said Canadians can demand Hamas be brought to justice while also seeking accountability when Israeli troops commit sexual violence against Palestinians, without drawing a false equivalence. "We have to see Canada's leadership in addressing the lack of moral clarity of international institutions," Elkayam-Levy said in an interview during a visit to Ottawa last month. Elkayam-Levy is an international-law professor at Reichman University and a former Hebrew University researcher, who chairs Israel's Civil Commission on Oct. 7 Crimes Against Women and Children. That non-governmental body originally set out to document patterns in sexualized violence by Hamas and its affiliates during the 2023 attack and against hostages it took into the Gaza Strip. The aim wasn't to come up with a tally of assaults, but to instead document systemic factors in how women were raped, tortured and mutilated. The idea was to have an understanding that could help victims and their descendants cope with intergenerational trauma, and to create an archive for researchers and prosecutors to use for possible investigations. Elkayam-Levy's team reviewed hours of footage featuring "very extreme forms of violence" from closed-circuit cameras and what militants themselves recorded. They started to notice six patterns of violence involving among the circumstances of more than 140 families. These include using victims' social media to broadcast that person being tortured to their friends and family, including hostages and those killed. Another involved murdering parents in front of their children or vice versa, while another is the destruction of family homes. "We started understanding that there is something here, a unique form of violence," she said. "The abuse of familial relations to intensify harm, to intensify suffering." Elkayam-Levy said she developed the term with the help of experts, including Canadians like former attorney general Irwin Cotler. The rules undergirding the International Criminal Court only mention families in procedural contexts, but not as a factor in war crimes, she noted. "It's a crime without a name," she said, arguing that impedes victims' healing. She said experts in past conflicts have agreed with her, saying kinocide should have been a factor in how the world understood and sought justice for atrocities on various continents, such as how Islamic State militants targeted Yazidi families from 2014 to 2017. "Justice begins with this recognition; healing begins with recognition," she said. Elkayam-Levy noted "gender-based violence" existed for centuries before the United Nations officially recognized the term in 1992. She's also taken aim at "the silence of many international organizations, and the lack of moral clarity," in calling out sexual violence by Hamas, which Ottawa deems a terrorist group. In particular, UN Women did not condemn Hamas' sexual violence until nearly two months after that attack, and Elkayam-Levy argued the institution has stayed largely silent, setting a bad precedent for upholding global norms. "They have fuelled denial of the sexual atrocities," she said, adding that a constant demand for physical evidence pervades social media "in a very antisemitic way." Israeli police have said forensic evidence was not preserved in the chaos of the attack, and people believed to be victims of sexual assault were often killed and immediately buried. Acts of sexual violence were not part of 43-minute video that Israel's foreign ministry has screened for journalists, including The Canadian Press, which was sourced from security footage and videos filmed by militants during their October 2023 attack. In March, a UN envoy said there are "reasonable grounds" to believe Hamas committed rape and "sexualized torture" during the attack, "including rape and gang rape," despite the group's denials. That same month, released hostage Amit Soussana went public about her captors groping her and forcing "a sexual act" that she asked not be specified. As part of its avowed feminist foreign policy, Canada funds initiatives abroad to prevent sexual violence and support victims. Yet the Conservatives have lambasted the Liberals for not condemning Hamas' sexual violence until five months after the attack. In March, Ottawa came under fire for pledging both $1 million for groups supporting Israeli victims of Hamas sexual violence and $1 million for Palestinian women facing "sexual and gender-based violence" from unspecified actors. Global Affairs did not say whether that referred to domestic abuse or sexual violence by Israeli officials, drawing a rebuke from a senior Israeli envoy. Human-rights groups have long accused Israeli officials of sexually assaulting Palestinian detainees in the West Bank. In July, those concerns escalated when Israeli soldiers were accused of perpetuating the filmed gang rape of a Palestinian prisoner from the Gaza Strip. Far-right Israeli cabinet ministers voiced support for mobs attempting to free soldiers under investigation. Elkayam-Levy said Canadians can call out the patterns of sexual violence by Hamas against Israelis, while still demanding the Israeli state investigate and prosecute its soldiers who undertake individuals acts of sexual violence. "The fact that (Western leaders) are trying to make the right political decision, instead of the right moral decision, is creating confusion, is creating moral blur — instead of making space for all victims to be heard for what they have endured," she said. To her, there is a "false parallel" being made between individual cases of sexual assault from soldiers who should be held to account, and a group using patterns of sexual violence as a weapon of war. Elkayam-Levy said people should uphold the principles of international law instead of what she deems to be weaponizing global institutions against Israel. She is aware that many have instead argued that Israel's military campaign has broken international law and undermined the systems meant to uphold human rights. Elkayam-Levy has been critical of the Israeli government, arguing before the war that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sought anti-democratic reforms to the country's judiciary. She has been critical of his war cabinet for lacking any women, and has highlighted extensive media reports that female military personnel had detected Hamas was planning a large attack only to be dismissed by male leaders. She said the world needs to condemn Hamas' violence against families and try prosecuting those responsible. Otherwise, she fears combatants in other countries will take up its brutal tactics. New Delhi: The opposition INDIA bloc leaders and some independents will move a motion of impeachment against Allahabad High Court Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav over his controversial remarks during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) function on December 8. As per the rules, the signatures of at least 50 lawmakers are required in the upper house for consideration of an impeachment motion . "We have got 55 signatures and we will move it on Friday. We are in discussion with members of all the INDIA bloc parties and independents who have signed the motion to join us in moving the motion," Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Vivek Tankha told ET. During his speech at a VHP function on December 8, Justice Yadav said that this country belongs to bahusankhayaks (majority) and only a Hindu can make this country a Vishwa Guru. Yadav also commented on the practice of Triple Talaq , Halala and said that the country needs to be vigilant from a particular community. The opposition leaders blamed that Justice Yadav has made disparaging remarks against a community and has not acted as per the oath of the constitution taken by every judge in the country. Germany’s far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party has held what it calls a “memorial” rally for the victims of a car-ramming attack on a Christmas market that has inflamed debate on migrant and security policy. The rally was held on Monday outside a cathedral in the eastern city of Magdeburg, the scene of last week’s attack that killed five people and left more than 200 others wounded. “Terror has arrived in our city,” said the AfD’s leader in Saxony-Anhalt state, Jan Wenzel Schmidt, condemning what he labelled the “monstrous political failure” that led up to the attack, for which a Saudi Arabian citizen was arrested. “We must close the borders,” he told hundreds of supporters of the anti-immigration party. “We can no longer take in madmen from all over the world.” The party’s co-leader Alice Weidel described the attack as “an act of an Islamist full of hatred for what constitutes human cohesion ... for us Germans, for us Christians”. She demanded “change so we can finally live in security again”, as people in the crowd chanted: “Deport, deport, deport!” The suspect , Taleb al-Abdulmohsen, faces numerous charges, including murder and attempted murder. He has lived in Germany since 2006 and has previously made anti-migrant and anti-Islam posts on social media, according to reports. While motives have not yet been made public, Abdulmohsen has expressed strongly anti-Islam views, anger at German officials over immigration policies. He also has vocally supported far-right conspiracy theories about the “Islamisation” of Europe. Despite the suspect’s expressed viewpoints, which align with the AfD’s anti-immigrant stance and Islamophobic rhetoric, Weidel referred to him as an “Islamist” at the rally – an attempt to bolster the party’s anti-immigrant views. Friday’s attack has prompted political debate over migration policies before the early elections in February, in which the AfD hopes to increase its standing in parliament. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said “no stone will be left unturned” in uncovering what information had been available about the 50-year-old suspect, who had been treated for mental illness in the past, according to the German newspaper Die Welt. Meanwhile, an anti-extremist initiative called “Don’t Give Hate a Chance” also gathered in Magdeburg. “We are all shocked and angry to see that people want to exploit this cruel act for their own political ends,” the initiative said in a statement.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — The United Nations raised the death toll of a recent massacre in which dozens of older people and Vodou religious leaders were killed by a gang in Haiti, and called on officials to bring the perpetrators to justice. The U.N. Integrated Office in Haiti said in a report published on Monday that between Dec. 6 and 11 more than 207 people were killed by the Wharf Jeremie gang. The gang took people from their homes and from a place of worship, interrogated them and then executed them with bullets and machetes. Earlier this month, human rights groups in Haiti had estimated that more than 100 people were killed in the massacre, but the new U.N. investigation doubles the number of victims. “We cannot pretend that nothing happened” said María Isabel Salvador, the U.N. secretary-general’s special representative in Haiti. “I call on the Haitian justice system to thoroughly investigate these horrific crimes and arrest and punish the perpetrators, as well as those who support them,” she said in a statement. Human rights groups in Haiti said the massacre began after the son of Micanor Altès, the leader of the Wharf Jeremie gang, died from an illness. The Cooperative for Peace and Development, a human rights group, said that according to information circulating in the community, Altès accused people in the neighborhood of causing his son’s illness. “He decided to cruelly punish all elderly people and (Vodou) practitioners who, in his imagination, would be capable of casting a bad spell on his son,” the group said in a statement released shortly after news of the massacre emerged. In Monday’s report, the United Nations said that people were tracked down in their homes and in a place of worship by Altès’ gang, where they were first interrogated and then taken to an execution site. The United Nations said that the gang tried to erase evidence of the killings by burning bodies, or by dismembering them and throwing them into the sea. The massacre is the latest humanitarian tragedy in Haiti, where gang violence has intensified since the nation’s president was killed in a 2021 coup attempt . Haiti has struggled to organize an election that will fill the power vacuum and restore democratic rule. The Caribbean nation is currently governed by a transitional council that includes representatives from the business community, civil society and political parties, but its government has no control over many areas of the capital city, and gangs are constantly fighting over ports, highways and neighborhoods. According to the United Nations, more than 5,350 people have been killed in Haiti’s gang wars this year. The Haitian government acknowledged the massacre against older people in a statement issued earlier this month, and promised to persecute those responsible for this act of “unspeakable carnage.”
