Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voiced opposition on Sunday to the idea of using the military to carry out mass deportations of people living in the country illegally after President-elect signaled last week that . "You don't do it with the Army because it's illegal," Paul said on CBS's "Face the Nation" program. "If they send the Army into New York and you have 10,000 troops marching carrying semi-automatic weapons, I think it's a terrible image, and I will oppose that." A 19th century U.S. law prohibits federal troops from being used in domestic law enforcement except when authorized by Congress. Paul, at times a maverick within his party, noted that he supports the idea of who have criminal records, but said that law enforcement authorities are better equipped than the military to carry out that role and to heed the U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures. There is a "distrust of putting the Army into our streets" among Americans, Paul said. Asked if this is a red line for him and whether it would impact his Senate vote to confirm Trump's pick of to run the Department of Homeland Security, Paul said, "I will not support and will not vote to use the military in our cities." Nevertheless, he is still a straw capable of stirring the proverbial drink. The major drawback for this fight is McGregor’s contract with the UFC. He still has two fights left on his current deal, and the UFC has seldom allowed fighters under contract to pursue these kinds of outside ventures. How badly does want to win? That’s the question. Look, I’m not saying that Judge should play worse during the regular season next year; that’s preposterous. But if he melted the AL MVP trophy down and had it remade into a sculpture of the 2024 Dodgers celebrating their world championship and then put that sculpture on his bedside table so he could wake up every morning properly motivated, it wouldn’t be the most inappropriate thing. It’s tradition for MVP winners to accept their awards at the annual BBWAA New York Chapter dinner in January. And while I’m sure fans would love to see Judge there, he should honestly be spending that time in the gym or the batting cage for the 2025 season. A night in a tuxedo with boring writers like me isn’t working toward the ultimate goal of a Yankees parade. Judge’s 2024 was, by OPS+, the best season by a hitter since Barry Bonds put up a 263 OPS+ in 2004. The titanic Yankees outfielder finished the season with a comical stat line: 58 home runs, a .322 batting average, an 1.159 OPS and an adjusted OPS 123% better than league average. Only three players in MLB history have posted an OPS+ higher than Judge’s 223 mark this year: Bonds, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. Not too shabby. And sure, as my idiotic ramblings above alluded to, Judge’s struggles on the big stage leave an unfortunate haze over our collective memory of his season. It’s a fact, one he knows and one he has owned: When the games mattered most, Judge was not at his best. Whether that’s because he can’t handle the spotlight or because baseball is difficult and random is up to the eye of the beholder. Just remember that the that it’s impossible to pin on any one soul. Maybe I’m being the “ , but whatever. Judge's outstanding 162 cannot simply wipe away his autumnal stumble. Yet at the same time, his substandard October shouldn’t completely overshadow six months of downright dominance. Both are true, both are important, and both tell the story of Aaron Judge’s 2024, a season that we’ll remember for a long, long time. Hopefully, for all the right reasons.

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., voiced opposition on Sunday to the idea of using the military to carry out mass deportations of people living in the country illegally after President-elect signaled last week that . "You don't do it with the Army because it's illegal," Paul said on CBS's "Face the Nation" program. "If they send the Army into New York and you have 10,000 troops marching carrying semi-automatic weapons, I think it's a terrible image, and I will oppose that." A 19th century U.S. law prohibits federal troops from being used in domestic law enforcement except when authorized by Congress. Paul, at times a maverick within his party, noted that he supports the idea of who have criminal records, but said that law enforcement authorities are better equipped than the military to carry out that role and to heed the U.S. Constitution's Fourth Amendment prohibition on unreasonable searches and seizures. There is a "distrust of putting the Army into our streets" among Americans, Paul said. Asked if this is a red line for him and whether it would impact his Senate vote to confirm Trump's pick of to run the Department of Homeland Security, Paul said, "I will not support and will not vote to use the military in our cities." Trump, who built his political profile on opposition to illegal immigration, has vowed to launch the largest deportation effort in U.S. history as soon as he is sworn in on Jan. 20. Paul is a naturally bigger man than Canelo, but his size advantage isn’t likely to negate what the Mexican icon has in boxing acumen. McGregor boxed Floyd Mayweather Jr. unsuccessfully back in 2017, and he is the smaller man. He has also not appeared to be in fighting shape—mentally or physically—as of late. Nevertheless, he is still a straw capable of stirring the proverbial drink. The major drawback for this fight is McGregor’s contract with the UFC. He still has two fights left on his current deal, and the UFC has seldom allowed fighters under contract to pursue these kinds of outside ventures. This issue is part of the reason Francis Ngannou left for the Professional Fighters League. That said, the UFC made an exception with McGregor for the Mayweather fight because of the size of the event. Intro. 772 would also allow courts and administrative tribunals to consider the median property value of residential buildings with condos and co-ops, a mitigating factor in GHG penalties, and require the city Department of Buildings to consider whether to grant an adjustment to a building’s emissions limit requirements based on that complex’s prior installation of technology such as solar panels, submetering and oil to gas conversions. The law would exempt most co-ops and condos from the requirements in LL 97, according to NYCC. The bill was introduced by Councilwoman Linda Lee (D-Oakland Gardens) April 11 and referred to the Council’s Committee on Environmental Protection. It has 25 sponsors, including Queens Councilmembers Sandra Ung (D-Flushing), Vickie Paladino (R-Whitestone), Nantasha Williams (D-St. Albans), Lynn Schulman (D-Forest Hills), Bob Holden (D-Maspeth), Joann Ariola (D-Ozone Park), Julie Won (D-Long Island City) and Francisco Moya (D-Corona). LL 97 was created because more than two thirds of GHG emissions in the city come from buildings. Under the law, most buildings over 25,000 square feet were required to meet the GHG emissions at the start of this year. How badly does want to win? That’s the question. If he really cared about a World Series ring, Judge, , would sell his fancy new trophy on eBay and give the proceeds to Yankees general manager Brian Cashman so the club can sign another bullpen arm for 2025. That’s what a real captain would do. Derek Jeter, the perfect example of Yankees leadership, had the perspective and wherewithal to never play well enough to warrant winning such a selfish award. Look, I’m not saying that Judge should play worse during the regular season next year; that’s preposterous. But if he melted the AL MVP trophy down and had it remade into a sculpture of the 2024 Dodgers celebrating their world championship and then put that sculpture on his bedside table so he could wake up every morning properly motivated, it wouldn’t be the most inappropriate thing. It’s tradition for MVP winners to accept their awards at the annual BBWAA New York Chapter dinner in January. And while I’m sure fans would love to see Judge there, he should honestly be spending that time in the gym or the batting cage for the 2025 season. A night in a tuxedo with boring writers like me isn’t working toward the ultimate goal of a Yankees parade. As they say, if you aren’t getting better, you’re getting worse. , is a different story, his own overlooked postseason struggles aside. Judge’s 2024 was, by OPS+, the best season by a hitter since Barry Bonds put up a 263 OPS+ in 2004. The titanic Yankees outfielder finished the season with a comical stat line: 58 home runs, a .322 batting average, an 1.159 OPS and an adjusted OPS 123% better than league average. Only three players in MLB history have posted an OPS+ higher than Judge’s 223 mark this year: Bonds, Babe Ruth and Ted Williams. Not too shabby. And sure, as my idiotic ramblings above alluded to, Judge’s struggles on the big stage leave an unfortunate haze over our collective memory of his season. It’s a fact, one he knows and one he has owned: When the games mattered most, Judge was not at his best. Whether that’s because he can’t handle the spotlight or because baseball is difficult and random is up to the eye of the beholder. Just remember that the that it’s impossible to pin on any one soul. Maybe I’m being the “ , but whatever. Judge's outstanding 162 cannot simply wipe away his autumnal stumble. Yet at the same time, his substandard October shouldn’t completely overshadow six months of downright dominance. Both are true, both are important, and both tell the story of Aaron Judge’s 2024, a season that we’ll remember for a long, long time. Hopefully, for all the right reasons.
