A Campbell River resident is celebrating the milestone of becoming Canada’s first-ever student pilot to fly solo in an electric airplane. Catherine Check said she has wanted to be a pilot since she was five years old and decided a few years ago to pursue it as a profession. After gaining experience with conventional airplanes, her instructor at Sealand Flight School offered her the opportunity to test an electric plane. On Dec. 18, with about 10 hours of training experience, the 18-year-old became the country's first-ever student pilot to fly solo in an electric airplane. "The plane is a lot lighter, so you feel more turbulence," Check said. "But at the same time, the technology difference is remarkable." Flying the electric plane felt safer than a conventional plane, Check explained, because she could monitor what's happening with the engine, batteries, and power more confidentially during the 50-minute flight. "It's really safe in my opinion," she said. "Because it's a glider, it's not going to go in a nosedive." Check said the achievement means a lot to her, as she is a female pilot in a male-dominated field. She said she hopes her success will encourage others to consider becoming pilots, especially because the future of air travel is more sustainable. Called a Velis Electro, the electric plane Check flew is ultra-quiet. It produces zero emissions and is expected to be less expensive than conventional training aircraft. According to Sealand Flight School, the flight represents a major milestone in the aviation industry’s pursuit of sustainability. With the backing of Clean BC, BC Hydro, and Transport Canada, Sealand Flight is leading this initiative and takes immense pride in Check's achievement. “After sending students solo in conventional airplanes for over 20 years, it was exciting and rewarding to watch Catherine solo in an electric airplane for the first time,” said Ian Lamont, the company's chief flight instructor. This pioneering initiative serves as a foundation for implementing more commercial zero-emissions aircrafts reads a media release from the flight school. Through the electric airplane training flights, Canada's regulators and industry members are studying and evaluating how aviation can feasibly adopt these emerging technologies, it says.Unique among ‘Person of the Year’ designees, Donald Trump gets a fact-check from Time magazine
NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees slugger Aaron Judge wins his second AL MVP award after leading MLB with 58 home runs.Sam Darnold sensed the backside pressure as soon as he dropped back with Minnesota trailing by four points late in the fourth quarter in Seattle, so he moved into a safe space in the pocket and did precisely what the Vikings would prefer him to do with the game on the line. He threw the ball down the field to Justin Jefferson. The perfectly placed throw near the sideline beat double coverage for a 39-yard touchdown that put the Vikings back in front with 3:51 remaining in a 27-24 victory over the Seahawks on Sunday. “It was a great call,” said Jefferson, who had 10 receptions for 144 yards and two scores, all season highs. “I’m not going to say too much about that play, but something went on where me and Sam were on the same page, and he found me and we went up.” The Vikings were understandably coy about the context around the go-ahead touchdown , when Darnold made a difficult on-the-run pass just over cornerback Tariq Woolen that Jefferson deftly twisted to catch next to his backside hip so he could shield the ball from late-breaking safety Julian Love. Darnold saw Love's shoulders initially shaded inside just enough to believe he couldn't retreat fast enough to prevent Jefferson from getting the ball. Jefferson also applied some improvisation to his route that Darnold clearly and properly read during the play. “I want those guys to have some freedom in those moments,” coach Kevin O'Connell said. “We do a lot of things with Justin and Sam, seeing the coverage and then with some route opportunities to get to at the line of scrimmage, and I think those guys have just gotten so comfortable with that stuff.” Darnold's long-delayed breakout performance under O'Connell has been one of the stories of the NFL this season, one that wouldn't have unfolded as neatly for the third overall pick in the 2018 draft without such synergy between him and his superstar wide receiver. If the Vikings (13-2) win their last two games, they will not only be NFC North champions for the second time in three years but also get the No. 1 seed and the lone first-round bye in the NFC for the playoffs. “Every single game we’re finding different ways to overcome adversity, overcome the different stuff defenses have thrown towards us," Jefferson said. “Sam has done a great job being a leader.” The pass rush was strong, with Andrew Van Ginkel recording two sacks and pressure leading to both interceptions of Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith. The Vikings were credited with eight hits on Smith. The Vikings converted only three of 12 third downs, their second-worst rate of the season. Story continues below video Theo Jackson, who saw significant playing time at safety with Harrison Smith out, had the game-sealing interception with 49 seconds left. Tight end Josh Oliver has played 47% of the snaps the last two games, his two lowest usage rates of the season. He dropped the only pass he was thrown on Sunday. The defense ought to get a big boost this week with the expected return of the 13-year veteran Smith from his first absence in two years when he was sidelined at Seattle with a foot injury. Linebacker Ivan Pace, who has missed four games on injured reserve with a hamstring strain, is also on track to be back with his return to practice. Backup defensive lineman Jalen Redmond, who didn't play against the Seahawks because of a concussion, has made progress through the protocol, O'Connell said. Backup cornerback Fabian Moreau, who was inactive at Seattle with a hip injury, will continue to be evaluated throughout the week. 13.6% — That's the third-down conversion allowance rate for the Vikings over the last two games, with Chicago and Seattle combining to go just 3 for 22. The Vikings rank second in the NFL in third-down defense at 33.7% for the season and also rank second on fourth down at 36.7%. The Vikings host Green Bay on Sunday, with the kickoff moved to the late afternoon showcase spot on Fox. If Minnesota loses to the Packers, the Lions will clinch the NFC North and the Vikings would open the playoffs on the road as the No. 5 seed at best. Even if the Lions were to lose at San Francisco on Monday night, the Vikings would need to win at Detroit on Jan. 5 to take the division title. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFL

On this news, the price of Celsius stock fell more than 11%. Finally, on November 6, 2024 , Celsius disclosed that Celsius' overall third quarter of 2024 "revenue was approximately $265.7 million , compared to $384.8 million for the" third quarter of 2023, a 31% decline; Celsius' North American revenues fell 33%; and its "'[r]evenue from [Pepsi] declined $123.9 million ,'" while "[c]oncurrently, related retailer promotional allowances created revenue headwinds." Celsius further revealed that its quarterly "gross profit decreased by $71.9 million , or 37%"; that its quarterly "[g]ross profit margin was 46.0% . . . , a 440 basis point decrease from 50.4% for the same period in 2023"; and that the "decrease in gross profit was due to promotional allowances, incentives, and other billbacks as a percentage of gross revenue" resulting from Pepsi's drawdown. Neurocrine Biosciences Announces FDA Approval of CRENESSITYTM (crinecerfont), a First-in-Class Treatment for Children and Adults With Classic Congenital Adrenal HyperplasiaTwo people have been taken to hospital after a gas explosion at a terraced house in east London. Footage on social media showed the moment of the blast on a residential street in Ilford - which caused a fire that significantly damaged the roof, both of its floors and the loft conversion. The house had been converted into flats, the London Fire Brigade said. Some 60 firefighters were sent to tackle the blaze on Ley Street and two people were rescued from a first-floor window using a ladder. They were taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. Two neighbouring properties are being assessed by a dangerous structures engineer, the London Fire Brigade said. Emergency services took the first calls about the fire at 4.09pm and it was brought under control by 6.23pm. Crews will remain on the scene throughout the evening. Station commander Darren McTernan said: "Ley Street remains closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, impacting traffic in the surrounding area, so please continue to avoid the area if you can." A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We sent resources including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic practitioner, an incident response officer and members of our hazardous area response team. "We treated three people. We took two to hospital and discharged a third at the scene," they added. The London Fire Brigade said the cause of the explosion was being investigated.Edo State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Tony Aziegbemi, speaks to CHUKWUDI AKASIKE about issues affecting Edo State, including the presentation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the state House of Assembly by Governor Monday Okpebholo Is your party, the Peoples Democratic Party, ready to embrace the new task of a credible opposition in Edo State after Monday Okpebholo was declared winner and sworn in as the governor of the state, or has the PDP lost hope in the affairs of the Edo people after the last election in the state? I don’t think it is right to imagine that as big and as complex and sophisticated as the PDP is, it will lose hope in the Edo project. The people of Edo State and the Edo project are why the PDP exists. The PDP and Edo people are synonymous; they are like twins, and that is because of a long-time relationship between the people of the state and the party. We can never lose hope in the Edo project. The welfare and the prosperity of the Edo people are paramount to us as a party. The four years of the Godwin Obaseki administration under the PDP give credence to that. Those four years were the glorious years of Edo State. Therefore, we believe so much in the people of Edo State. We believe that the people know what is going on; they see everything, and there is no way we can lose hope. But the APC does not believe that the immediate past administration of Obaseki did well. They are saying that contrary to the claim of performing excellently, the PDP-led administration did not do well. How will you reconcile these contrasting positions? There should be a philosophical profiling of APC members in Edo State. They did something wrong, and instead of admitting it, they doubled down on it. It shows the content of the character of the members of the APC in Edo State. They don’t seem to understand that this is Edo State and not any other state. So, some of us are looking at them. I can imagine how bad Edo people are feeling about this APC administration as we have it now in the state. But I can tell you for free that it is temporary; it will not last more than when the Supreme Court gives its final judgment on the governorship election. The people of Edo State should be resilient and stay focused as the glory of Edo State will shine again once we retrieve our mandate; Edo State has been enveloped with darkness because there is nothing good that the APC can bring to Edo State, not with this calibre of people. There are claims in some quarters that the PDP in the state is no longer united after losing the governorship election. How true is this? I understand what you mean by the PDP is no longer united. I speak with leaders and stakeholders of the party. That is not what I heard. People are more energised; people are more hopeful. People have seen our petition, and they have read the responses from the APC, INEC, and the governor. We have also written our responses and people have seen it and they know that we have a powerful case. So, the issue of the PDP not being united does not arise. Is it not unique that even after losing the election, how many defections have they had? I have not heard of any. We are as united as we can be in the circumstances. Of course, a few people will take this in its stride, a few people may take it not as strongly as some other people, but we are different. Governor Monday Okpebholo made a gaffe while presenting the state 2025 Appropriation Bill, a development that drew reactions from Nigerians, including the people of the state. What is your view on this? I would rather focus on his (Governor Okpebholo) purpose of visiting the House of Assembly. It was to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill to the House of Assembly. I have more fundamental issues with that presentation than the issue of not being able to read those figures. We should be looking at the big picture. Anybody can have a bad day, and maybe that was just a bad day for him. We hope it doesn’t happen again. However, I want Nigerians and Edo people to look at the following issues. Look at those around him (governor); has he been able to put together a solid team that will make sure that whenever he is presenting anything, everything is in good shape, the fonts, the figures, and the words are there? If they have not, I will hold them responsible for that gaffe, and that means he has not been able to put together a strong team around him. That is serious because that means we will continue to have this kind of gaffe in the future. Secondly, the budget was increased by 25 per cent. Unfortunately, we did not see the performance of the budget in 2024. What was the percentage of performance? What was the cash backing? Which projects were done, and which ones were not done? When you increase a budget in this environment by 25 per cent, where are you looking to get those revenues to back up that increase? Two sources were not revealed to us. I believe that the budget was hurriedly put together; I think he didn’t participate in it, and I believe that those who did it were only doing copy and paste. We are in a very serious situation. He (the governor) doesn’t seem to be in sync with those around him. He knows he cannot do this thing alone; he must have a strong team around him. People cannot just put something together for you and give it to you to go to the House of Assembly and read. It has been one flop to another. He flags off a flyover from Ramat Park to wherever without any appropriation, no design, no tenders’ board, no executive council; who does that? Everything he (Governor Okpebholo) has done is to go to a facility built by Governor Obaseki, he sees a crack in the wall and says, ‘Oh, it is a substandard job’. You can see how mediocre these guys are. If you try looking at what he has done, you will weep for the state. Some Nigerians have said that the gaffe at the Edo State House of Assembly is a sign of incompetence by the governor. Don’t you think that is too harsh on him? I don’t want to dwell on his inability to read those figures. As I said, I blame those around him who failed to prepare him. But I am looking at the fundamental issue, which is the 25 per cent increase and where he intends to get money to fund it, not the mistake he made while presenting the budget. Maybe he didn’t sleep well; his APC people didn’t allow him to sleep. It happens. He (Okpebholo) is saying agriculture is one of his priorities. Meanwhile, he allocated a meagre N4.5bn to the sector. So, there seems to be no alignment with his thoughts, the budget proposal, and how it was presented. All this again speaks to the fact that the people surrounding the governor need to up their game for the few months they will occupy that seat. Do you think Asue Ighodalo is infallible and would not have made a similar mistake in reading the Appropriation Bill? One thousand per cent, an Asue Ighodalo will never make such a mistake. Why do you say so? I say so because I know him, and I know the stuff he is made of. He will never make such a mistake because we have a strong team around him. He would have gone through that budget proposal page to page, back-to-back. Related News Edo probes 100% hike in Benin-Abraka road contract cost LP, PDP berate INEC chair for sharing lessons from Ghana poll Edo: APC, PDP trade words as supporters clash at tribunal He would never have gone to that House of Assembly without making sure that they got all the figures right, and he would have told us the source of the increase in the Appropriation Bill, why he is increasing it, for what purpose, and where the revenues are going to come from. But the APC Chairman in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, said in a video that the immediate past governor, Obaseki, and the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, would not have made such a mistake while presenting the Appropriation Bill because they had stolen billions (of naira) before. How will you react to this claim? This is the point I have been making about the quality of people that the APC parades. People can make mistakes because we are humans but don’t insult the intelligence of the people who are more intelligent than you by saying he (Okpebholo) cannot read our budget proposal figures because he has not stolen billions of naira. For your information, Asue Ighodalo has written him (Tenebe) through a law firm, asking for a retraction within seven days or else be ready to face the court to prove how Asue Ighodalo has stolen billions of naira. I also expect the former governor, Obaseki, to sue him. When they sue him and he is declared bankrupt, then people will learn how to talk in public. It is so pathetic and a no-brainer to say Obaseki and Ighodalo will not make mistakes in reading budget proposal figures because they have stolen billions of naira. It just shows the quality of people that the APC parades in Edo State. It is so bad that I feel sorry for the Edo people for the next few months that these men will occupy that seat. But not to worry; Asue Ighodalo is coming, and we will make things right again. How do you view the affairs of the state currently? As we speak, Edo State IGR is declining rapidly. Before Governor Obaseki left, it was in the region of N8bn every month. Now, we hear it is coming down to about N2bn. This is because investors are not coming anymore. They are afraid because when the tigers and lions are harassing everybody; the tigers and lions are collecting tickets and revenues for the state. Non-state actors now take part in the collection of revenue. What do you mean by tigers and lions are collecting tickets and revenues in Edo State? The tigers and lions have been unleashed on the streets of Benin City. When Obaseki was the governor, he told them the lions and tigers were always in the zoo. So, he caged them, and they didn’t come out. But now that Okpebholo is there, he (Okpebholo) has brought them back from the zoo and they are on the prowl. Nigerians have always been told to pray for their leaders. Today, Governor Okpebholo is your leader. With what you have said so far, will you pray for him to succeed? That’s a good question. It has a lot of philosophical angles to it. I want to ask you; if somebody gets to your house and steals your property, and you know the person that came to steal your property, will you pray for him? Okpebholo stole our mandate. So, it will be out of place to pray for him after being a beneficiary of a stolen mandate. No! The PDP won by a landslide in the last local government election in Edo State. Surprisingly, the same PDP couldn’t win the governorship election in the state. How do you reconcile these two events and their outcomes? We won in all the 18 local government areas of Edo State during the local government elections in 2023. We won all the 92 councillorship positions in Edo State during the council elections last year. We won in 12 local government areas in Edo State during the September 21st governorship election. From our analysis of the Form EC8A which our agents gave to us, we were leading the APC with about 50,000 votes. That was about 8pm on the 21st. APC leaders were calling me and congratulating me until they started their style. They started manipulating and moving collation centres from LGA collation centres to the INEC headquarters in Benin, and the results of at least five local government areas were changed. The matter is in court, and it is not right to speak about it now. You asked a question. We did not lose the election; we won the election hands down. We won the governorship election in the same manner we won the local government election. The results declared by INEC are the correct results. But local government elections in the country have always been criticised as a ruling party’s affair, where the State Independent Electoral Commissions do the bidding of the ruling party. Has that not been the pattern? There is a fundamental reason for that. Everything happens for a reason. If you check, there must be something responsible for that. Now, in a local government election, the governor is seated in his office in the state, and he wants to conduct local government elections. He appoints members of the State Independent Electoral Commission; it is like his appointees, like commissioners or special advisers. I think the idea is that most opposition parties do not normally up their games when it comes to local government elections. There was a year when the PDP boycotted local government elections in the state; that was when Adams Oshiomhole was the governor. It was because we knew we didn’t have a chance. Most times, the opposition feels there is no need to beat a dead horse. So, the opposition wasn’t there. That time, before the governorship election, people believed in INEC, but under Yakubu Mahmood, the integrity of the commission has been greatly eroded, and INEC is fast becoming like a state electoral commission, where results are already written, and people already know who will win. But it was the same Mahmood that was there in 2020 when Obaseki won. What do you think happened? Yes, Mahmood was there in 2020 when Obaseki won. He was there in 2016 when Obaseki won. So, you have asked a good question. When you see him, ask him what happened. I think something has fundamentally happened in INEC. There are many loopholes in that commission now. There were two result sheets of the same serial number everywhere. Where is that second result sheet coming from? This never happened in Edo State before; never! We used to hear that people have result sheets; we don’t do that in Edo State. Under Mahmood, we thought that he had everything under control, but the result sheets were flying all over the place. How? Where did they come from? So, the standard has fallen under his watch. I hope he plugs those loopholes and gets back the confidence that the people ought to have in the commission.Randy Moss breaks silence with a revelation no one expected: 'I have cancer'

Gov. Glenn Youngkin emerged from this fall’s campaign as one of Donald Trump’s most enthusiastic supporters. But the incoming president’s plans have the potential to create major challenges for Virginia’s present governor. David J. Toscano Youngkin is pitching a tax cut, and cites a hefty state budgetary surplus as justification. But surpluses can evaporate in a Mar-a-Largo minute, and the prospects of declining revenue flowing to Virginia because of cutbacks in federal employment and reductions in Medicaid reimbursements are making Virginia budget-makers skittish about the future. Trump has stated his desire to fundamentally change the federal bureaucracy by eliminating civil servants either deemed expendable or who do not exhibit sufficient loyalty to the president. He could start by reinstituting Schedule F, an executive order issued late in his first term (and rescinded by President Joe Biden) to strip job protections from many career federal employees and make them more like political appointees who can be fired at will. This would devastate the commonwealth. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin arrives to speak at a rally for Republican presidential candidate former President Donald Trump in Chesapeake, Friday, June 28, 2024. More federal workers live here than in any other state: 85,000 live in Northern Virginia and another 60,000 make Hampton Roads their home. Many earn a good salary, and cuts in their positions would mean losing state revenue that comes both from their income taxes and the sales taxes generated from their purchases. Remember sequestration, when Virginia took a disproportionate hit from cuts in federal spending? Or the various government shutdowns? When the federal government sneezes, Virginia catches a cold. Substantial cuts in federal employment might not dramatically affect the state budget until Youngkin has left office, but budget writers are justifiably concerned about future revenue shortfalls, thereby making any major tax cut problematic. While Trump’s attack on federal employees may garner the largest headlines, his plans for cutting Medicaid pose more serious fiscal challenges for the states. Since 1965, Medicaid has been the largest source of medical and health care funding for poor and disabled Americans, providing free health insurance to over 80 million people, many of whom are children. It is administered by the states, but major program funding is provided by the federal government. For every dollar a state spends on Medicaid, Washington provides a match to cover the costs. The match rate differs by state. In states with higher per-capita incomes such as Virginia and New York, the federal match equals 50% of costs. For poorer states like Mississippi and Alabama, the match is over 70%. Yearly federal spending on Medicaid exceeds $880 billion. Big changes in the program have occurred since passage of the Affordable Care Act in 2010, which initially required states to expand Medicaid to people with incomes of up to 138% of the federal poverty level (which today equals about $35,600 for a family of three). In 2012, the U.S. Supreme Court made this optional, but since the ACA required the federal government to pick up 100% of the state costs for the expansion population (gradually declining to 90%), many states concluded that expansion was a great way to provide insurance to those who could not afford it. Forty-one states plus D.C. eventually embraced the plan. Virginia joined in 2019, and its expansion population now numbers 758,000 of the 1,872,000 state residents in the program. Today, Medicaid covers almost 13% of the state’s population, and it is the second-largest expenditure in the state budget. Virginia budget writers were recently informed that there is a $632 million Medicaid shortfall that will require addressing in the next General Assembly session. While that may be enough to throw a monkey wrench into the governor’s plan for a tax cut, it is potentially only the tip of the iceberg. Reducing Medicaid funding has been the target of conservatives for decades, and with Republicans in control of the presidency and both chambers of Congress, a serious effort likely will be made to make cuts. The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025 report, the Republican Study Committee’s budget plan and the 2025 House budget resolution all propose Medicaid cuts, including the reduction of the federal match for the expansion population. President-elect Donald Trump speaks Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, during a news conference at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. Republican proposals to reduce the match rate would be a budgetary disaster for all states, including Virginia. Ironically, many of the states who voted for Trump would take the largest hit because their federal match is so high. In Virginia, a reduction in the match for the expansion population to 50% reimbursement would mean $3 billion less per year for our budget, making the present shortfall mild by comparison. The commonwealth would either need to find additional funds to fill the gap or dramatically cut services to those most in need. But it gets worse. Buried in the 2018 Virginia Medicaid expansion authorization is language that requires the state to unwind expansion if the federal match falls below 90%. Eight other states (Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Utah) have similar laws that require termination of expansion if the share of federal funding drops. This would create a bureaucratic nightmare and remove 758,000 recipients. This places Youngkin in a serious quandary. Many of the people in the reddest counties in Virginia who voted for both him and Trump would likely be seriously harmed if they no longer qualified for Medicaid or their benefits were reduced. The governor, could, of course, propose new language in his budget to eliminate the requirement that the commonwealth abandon expansion if the match declines. Or he could speak out against any proposed cuts. To do either would likely draw the ire of the MAGA faithful, a group the governor is attempting to court as he contemplates a run for higher office. Most likely, he does nothing, in hopes the U.S. Senate has enough spine to prevent anything serious from happening. It isn’t exactly leadership, but it preserves his options for another day.

Gorakhpur: Protests erupted at AIIMS Gorakhpur after an MBBS student accused a security guard of allegedly attempting to sexually assault her on the campus, officials said on Saturday. The incident occurred around 9 pm on Friday when the student was heading to her hostel near gate number four, police said. Guard Satpal Yadav allegedly passed inappropriate comments but she ignored him and walked ahead. He then allegedly followed her, forcibly grabbed her hand and attempted to drag her into the nearby bushes, they said. The student resisted and raised an alarm prompting other students to intervene, they added. In the commotion, students managed to apprehend the accused but other security guards intervened and allegedly helped him escape, the officials said. Enraged, students staged at a protest at the gate demanding Yadav’s arrest and action against those who aided his escape, they said. AIIMS officials and police rushed to the spot to pacify the students and by 12.30 am police detained Yadav from Pipraich. The protest was called off after assurances of strict action against the accused, they added. A case has been registered under Section 74 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, AIIMS Medical Superintendent Vikas Srivastava said. Yadav was intoxicated at the time of the incident, he added. Authorities are also probing the role of other guards and an unidentified biker, the official said. AIIMS Executive Director Prof. Ajay Singh termed the incident “grave” and assured stringent action against those responsible. Superintendent of Police (City) Abhinav Tyagi said that further investigation is underway.Sanctuary Advisors LLC Takes Position in Freshpet, Inc. (NASDAQ:FRPT)

Once a close associate of Bhujbal, Shinde played a pivotal role in bringing Bhujbal to Yevla under Sharad Pawar’s guidance in 2004. However, their relationship soured, leading Shinde to join Shiv Sena in 2009 to contest against Bhujbal unsuccessfully. Yevla constituency: Who won in 2019 and 2014 elections? The 77-year-old seeks to retain the Yevla Assembly seat that he has made his bastion since first contesting from here in 2004. Chhagan Bhujbal’s consistent victories reflect his strong influence and popularity in elections. In the elections of 1999, Bhujbal did not contest. When he did, and won, in 2004, as an NCP candidate from Yevla, he was made Deputy Chief Minister by Sharad Pawar. Okpebholo stated this on Saturday at the Esan Central Local Government Council Secretariat, venue of the homecoming reception held in celebration of his victory by the Esan people. They are spending money day and night and wasting their money and will wait in vain,” he said. On his part, the Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm Aidenojie II, said the people of Esan are happy that the son of the land is the governor of the state, saying all the monarchs of Esanland backed his ambition which eventually materialised. “We, the traditional rulers from Esanland, went round the state to appeal for the support to produce the governor and today it’s a reality. “We thank the Oba of Benin Kingdom, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare ll and we are grateful to all for the support. His detractors can point to numbers and say he’s overrated. Both arguments have validity. To some, his cocky ways are endearing. To others, they’re infuriating.
