Bokaro: The Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha (JLKM) is all set to emerge as a significant player in the Jharkhand politics with party leaders expressing confidence in securing 10 seats while claiming substantial influence across 25 constituencies in the assembly elections. JLKM's central president, Jairam Mahto, emphasized that post-election alliances would be determined by party workers' and citizens' sentiments, stating readiness to serve in opposition if necessary. The party has identified key strongholds including Bermo, Dumri, Gomia, Silli, Tundi, and Ramgarh. Party spokesperson Vijay Kumar cited internal assessments indicating favorable outcomes in these regions. "Our grassroots work and public dissatisfaction with the current government have established us as a viable alternative," he said. Notable triangular contests were witnessed in Silli and Tamar, with candidates Devendranath and Damyanti Munda respectively gaining traction. Gomia witnessed an intense battle between JMM's Yogendra Mahato and JLKM's Pooja Mahto, while AJSU's Lambodar Mahato also laboured hard to woo voters. The party is capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments, particularly among youth frustrated by corruption and exam paper leaks. Their campaign strongly emphasized tribal issues, including advocacy for the Sarna Dharma Code, strengthening their appeal among tribal communities. In Dumri, JLKM poses a significant challenge to JMM's Baby Devi. "Our focused campaign strategy and public support will be evident in the results," Kumar stated. The party's strategic positioning, particularly in triangular contests, has intensified the electoral dynamics. JLKM's emphasis on tribal welfare and youth issues, combined with strong local candidates, has established it as a noteworthy contender in the assembly elections. The election outcome will test JLKM's political influence and its ability to translate public dissatisfaction into electoral success, potentially reshaping Jharkhand's political landscape.

The Lynx announced Saturday that Lindsay Whalen, their Hall of Fame point guard, will join the team as an assistant coach along with former Washington Mystics coach Eric Thibault, who will be associate head coach. Whalen, who led the University of Minnesota to a Final Four and was a three-time All-America before starting her pro career, also coached her alma mater for five seasons after retiring from the WNBA as a four-time league champion with the Lynx playing for Cheryl Reeve. She was a two-time Olympic gold medalist and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2022. Reeve, the Lynx president of basketball operations and head coach, announced the hires in a news release. The team will hold a news conference Monday. “Eric has vast experience coaching in the WNBA as both a head and an assistant coach and ... Lindsay adds a unique perspective as a Lynx legend and Naismith Hall of Famer,” Reeve said in the release. Thibault coached the Mystics the past two seasons after being an assistant for the previous 10 years under his father, Mike Thibault. Washington won the WNBA title in 2019. Eric Thibault was fired in October after the Mystics went 33-47 in his two seasons, including 14-26 in 2024. Whalen was 71-76 in her five seasons (2018-23) with the Gophers, and 32-58 in the Big Ten. Whalen left the job in March 2023 in what was described as a mutual decision with athletic director Mark Coyle. She accepted a $215,000 settlement to be terminated without cause rather than continue to work for her alma mater as a special assistant. Whalen said at the time she was not ready to return to coaching right away. As the Lynx made a run to the WNBA Finals last season, she cheered them on from courtside. “I’m so excited to be back with the Lynx and back with Coach and Bekky [assistant coach Rebekkah Brunson],” Whalen said in the release. “Eric and I have also known each other for a long time, and for me, I couldn’t imagine joining a better staff as I return to coaching and get my first opportunity to coach in the WNBA. We have a special group with this team and I can’t wait to get to work.” Lynx associate head coach Katie Smith left the team on Nov. 11 to join the staff at Ohio State, her alma mater. Reeve brought in Smith in 2020, after she her contract wasn’t renewed following two losing seasons as head coach of the New York Liberty. Whalen’s jersey No. 13 is retired by both the Lynx and the Gophers. Whalen was a five-time All-Star in nine seasons in Minnesota after starting her WNBA career with six seasons at Connecticut, where she played under Mike Thibault. She played in 480 regular-season games, winning 323 (second most behind Sue Bird in league history) and won 54 postseason games (second in league history behind Brunson’s 57). The Los Angeles Chargers activated running back J.K. Dobbins from injured reserve on Friday. Dobbins is formally listed as questionable but figures to be the team's top running threat for Saturday's road game against the New England Patriots. Teammate Gus Edwards (ankle) was ruled out Thursday. Dobbins has missed the past four games since sustaining a knee injury against the Baltimore Ravens on Nov. 25. He was a full practice participant Thursday before receiving the questionable label. The injury-prone Dobbins was enjoying a solid season prior to the knee ailment, with 766 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground and 28 receptions for 134 yards in 11 games. NEW DELHI, Nov 23 — Indian prodigy Gukesh Dommaraju broke new ground to reach the World Chess Championship and the 18-year-old “Friends” fan is now hot favourite to win the title and make more history. Gukesh will be the youngest player to take home the undisputed world crown if he beats reigning champion Ding Liren of China in Singapore from November 25. Most pundits and players believe Gukesh will prevail against the 32-year-old Ding, who has not won a game in the classical format since January. The modest and bearded Gukesh is having none of it. “I don’t believe in predictions and who are the favourites,” he told reporters ahead of the title match, where there is a total prize fund of US$2.5 million. “I’m just focusing on the process and I try to just be at my best every day and play a good game. “I just want to enjoy the experience.” Gukesh became India’s youngest grandmaster aged 12 years, seven months and 17 days, and among the youngest in the history of the game. Even Magnus Carlsen, the most recognisable current player in chess and a five-time world champion, was older. If he beats Ding in the best of 14 games, Gukesh will trump the legendary Garry Kasparov, who was 22 when he became world champion in 1985. In public Gukesh often appears shy and reserved. Norvell, who served as a graduate assistant under Malzahn at Tulsa in 2007-08, relinquished his role as FSU's primary playcaller amid a staff shakeup this season. UCF also endured a tough 2024 season, going 4-8 after losing eight of its last nine games.
