But, in this instance at least - these people - the ones in the social media spotlight on the global stage - are children. And while they seemingly want to be in the public arena - can they really consent to this at such a young age? In a time when these young girls are probably first encountering the terror that is tween school drama, how can they possibly be mentally equipped to take on the social media comment commune? One of the firm’s legacy projects is Mchezo’s Locker Room Bonus initiative which rewards players of the winning team with a financial bonus that is paid directly to their mobile wallets. Sponsors may be hesitant to invest more in women’s sports due to perceived lower audience appeal. However, stakeholders are thinking differently as far as women’s empowerment in sports is concerned. Ntoudi Mouyelo, the Managing Director of Mchezo, believes increasing popularity of the women’s sports through sports sponsorships is a befitting vector for bolstering brand loyalty. As a corporate, we have been investing more in women’s sports in the region, simply for one factor, women give us more value to our sponsorship than men. And there are sports for which we are starting with women now, so again, if there are women federations that have interest, please come to us. The statistics are there, and I do believe that there are more women than the youth in East Africa. At Mchezo, we do give the same support to women and men in terms of bonus and awards. Ntoudi was speaking during the Round Table stakeholder conference at the Aga Khan Academy Mombasa which is one of the venues hosting the ongoing 14th East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games (EAC-IPG). Diana Mayaka from the Basketball Referees Association, on her part, echoed Ntoudi’s sentiments saying: “Women have not gotten equal treatment in terms of sponsorship opportunities in sports over the years. In events, men usually get more in terms of prize money. This is a discussion we have been having over time,” Mayaka added. “As for the government, they are trying as much as possible to ensure that all genders are treated the same. The government facilitates education to athletes, staff and coaches to empower them so that they can continue growing the sport and this benefits women as well.” Kanini Kega, the Chairman of the 2024 Inter-Parliamentary Games noted that the regional extravaganza has gone a long way in enhancing cooperation among the regional countries. Kanini said: “Through sports and these games, we are able to integrate with each other. With these sports, we have seen that our people are able to communicate with each other. We are able to remove the physical borders that were created by our colonial masters, to make sure that we feel part of one community, which is the East African community.” “The same thrill and feel is seen when any one of us competes at national level. For instance, when Kenyans and Ugandans are running marathons at the global arena, we as East Africans feel as one family,” Kanini added. Mchezo is a regional company that invests in the future of sports and technology in Africa. Mouyelo has led the company’s efforts to partner with sports federations to ensure that sponsorship benefits go directly to athletes. One of the firm’s legacy projects is Mchezo’s Locker Room Bonus initiative which rewards players of the winning team with a financial bonus that is paid directly to their mobile wallets.

Investing consistently in just two TSX stocks can be a savvy strategy for generating substantial passive income from a $30,000 Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) investment. But where should investors start? In my view, the best option is to do what the best investors are doing. And if you’re doing that, there are only two stocks worth buying. Buy like a billionaire The two TSX stocks to consider match up with two of the best investors out there. These are the managers behind ( ) and ( ). Investors could do worse than investing like Prem Watsa and Mark Leonard, who have seen their companies achieve massive success over the decades. Fairfax Financial Holdings, a diversified insurance and investment management company, has demonstrated impressive financial performance. In the second quarter of 2024, Fairfax reported net earnings of $915.4 million, translating to $37.18 per diluted share. This robust performance was primarily driven by increased adjusted operating income and net gains on investments. Constellation Software, a leading provider of software and services to various industries, has also showcased strong financial results. The TSX stock has consistently achieved revenue growth through a disciplined acquisition strategy and strong cash flow generation. This approach has enabled Constellation to capitalize on industry shifts toward digital transformation, positioning it favourably for future growth. Considerations Historically, both FFH and CSU have delivered impressive returns to their shareholders. Fairfax Financial’s stock price has risen over 40% year to date, reflecting its strong financial health and effective management. Similarly, Constellation Software boasts a remarkable 10-year average annual return of about 35%, underscoring its consistent performance and growth potential. Looking ahead, the future outlook for both companies remains positive. Fairfax Financial continues to strengthen its insurance and reinsurance operations, producing favourable underwriting results and growing premiums. The TSX stock’s strategic acquisitions, such as the purchase of Gulf Insurance, have further bolstered its market position. Constellation Software’s disciplined acquisition strategy and focus on digital transformation trends position it well to capitalize on emerging market opportunities, supporting its growth prospects. Bottom line Investing in these two companies through a TFSA offers the added benefit of tax-free growth, allowing investors to maximize their returns. By consistently investing in FFH and CSU, investors can build a diversified portfolio that balances and growth potential, creating a solid foundation for generating passive income over time. In fact, here is what investors could earn by putting $15,000 towards each of these stocks and seeing returns of 40% again from FFH and 35% from CSU. That’s right; you could have returns totalling $9,265.20! Therefore, Fairfax Financial Holdings and Constellation Software represent compelling investment options for those seeking to generate passive income through a TFSA. These TSX stock’s strong financial performance, consistent growth, and positive future outlooks make them attractive choices for investors aiming to build wealth over the long term.

NEW ORLEANS — A scruffy little fugitive is on the lam again in New Orleans, gaining fame as he outwits a tenacious band of citizens armed with night-vision binoculars, nets and a tranquilizer rifle. Scrim, a 17-pound mutt that's mostly terrier, has become a folk hero, inspiring tattoos, T-shirts and even a ballad as he eludes capture from the posse of volunteers. And like any antihero, Scrim has a backstory: Rescued from semi-feral life at a trailer park and adopted from a shelter, the dog broke loose in April and scurried around the city until he was cornered in October and brought to a new home. Weeks later, he'd had enough. Scrim leaped out of a second-story window, a desperate act recorded in a now-viral video. Since then, despite a stream of daily sightings, he's roamed free. The dog’s fans include Myra and Steve Foster, who wrote “Ode to Scrim” to the tune of Ricky Nelson’s 1961 hit, “I’m a Travelin’ Man.” Michelle Cheramie, founder of Zeus' Rescues, at her office in New Orleans on Dec. 9 with a whiteboard index of sheltered cats and dogs and a Scrim look-alike recuperating in the background. 'I'm a travelin' dog and I've made a lot of stops/All over this town...' Leading the recapture effort is Michelle Cheramie, a 55-year-old former information technology professional. She lost everything — home, car, possessions — in Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and in the aftermath, found her calling rescuing pets. “I was like, ‘This is what I should be doing,’” Cheramie said. “I was born to rescue.” She launched Zeus’ Rescues, a nonprofit shelter that now averages 600 cat and dog adoptions a year and offers free pet food to anyone who needs it. She helped Scrim find the home he first escaped from. It was Cheramie's window Scrim leaped from in November. She's resumed her relentless mission since then, posting flyers on telephone poles and logging social media updates on his reported whereabouts. She's invested thousands of dollars on wildlife cameras, thermal sensors and other gear. She took a course offered by the San Diego Zoo on the finer points of tranquilizing animals. And she's developed a network of volunteers — the kind of neighbors who are willing to grid-search a city at 3 a.m. Scrim on Oct. 24 at the Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie, La. '...And at every stop I own the heart, of at least one lovely...' People like writer David W. Brown, who manages a crowd-sourced Google Map of all known Scrim sightings. He says the search galvanized residents from all walks of life to come together. As they search for Scrim, they hand out supplies to people in need. “Being a member of the community is seeing problems and doing what you can to make life a little better for the people around here and the animals around you,” Brown said. Neighbor Tammy Murray had to close her furniture store and lost her father to Parkinson's disease. This search, she says, got her mojo back. “Literally, for months, I’ve done nothing but hunt this dog,” said Murray, 53. “I feel like Wile E. Coyote on a daily basis with him.” Murray drives the Zeus' Rescues van toward reported Scrim sightings. She also handles a tactical net launcher, which looks like an oversized flashlight and once misfired, shattering the van's window as Scrim sped away. After realizing Scrim came to recognize the sound of the van's diesel engine, Murray switched to a Vespa scooter for stealth. Michelle Cheramie, director of Zeus' Rescues, left, walks with Scrim on Oct. 24 at the Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie, La. '...If you're ever in the 9th Ward stop and see/My cute little mini poodle...' Near-misses have been tantalizing. The search party spotted Scrim napping beneath an elevated house, and wrapped construction netting around the perimeter, but an over-eager volunteer broke ranks and dashed forward, leaving an opening Scrim slipped through. Scrim's repeated escapades prompted near-daily local media coverage and a devoted online following. Cheramie can relate. “We’re all running from something or to something," she said. "He's doing that, too.” Cheramie's team dreams of placing the pooch in a safe and loving environment. But a social media chorus growing under the hashtag #FreeScrim has other ideas — they say the runaway should be allowed a life of self-determination. The animal rescue volunteers consider that misguided. “The streets of New Orleans are not the place for a dog to be free,” Cheramie said. “It’s too dangerous.” Scrim rests in a kennel Oct. 24 at the Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie, La. '...and my Shar-Pei doll down in old Treme/Waits for my return...' Scrim was a mess when Cheramie briefly recaptured him in October, with matted fur, missing teeth and a tattered ear. His trembling body was scraped and bruised, and punctured by projectiles. A vet removed one, but decided against operating to take out a possible bullet. The dog initially appeared content indoors, sitting in Cheramie's lap or napping beside her bed. Then while she was out one day, Scrim chewed through a mesh screen, dropped 13 feet to the ground and squeezed through a gap in the fence, trotting away. Murray said Cheramie's four cats probably spooked him. Cheramie thinks they may have gotten territorial. Devastated but undeterred, the pair is reassessing where Scrim might fit best — maybe a secure animal sanctuary with big outdoor spaces where other dogs can keep him company. Somewhere, Murray says, “where he can just breathe and be.” Scrim sits in the arms of Zoey Ponder on Oct. 24 at Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie. Scrim at the Terrebonne Parish Animal Shelter in Louisiana. A Scrim sticker for sale Dec. 9 at Zeus' Rescues office to raise money for the shelter in New Orleans. A homemade portrait of Scrim hangs Dec. 9 in the Zeus' Rescues shelter in New Orleans. Scrim spends some time outside Oct. 24 with Michelle Cheramie, director of Zeus' Rescues, in a fenced-in area at Metairie Small Animal Hospital in Metairie. Labour plans to make spiking a specific offence and has laid out plans for venue staff to be trained in relation to spiking, with a pilot to begin within weeks before a wider rollout next year. Ms Davies-Jones, asked about why it was worthwhile to make spiking a new offence when it is already illegal, said: “Spiking is a crime already. “A lot of people don’t realise that it is a crime already, which is part of the problem.” She said there were around 6,000 reports of spiking last year but that because it is an underreported crime, it is not clear how big of a problem it is. “Part of the problem we’ve got is around the data collection, so you don’t know if you’ve been spiked with a drink, a needle, a vape, for example,” she told Politics Hub on Sky News. Modernising the offence and giving police the tools to get accurate data allows a clearer picture of where, how and how often spiking is happening, she said. It is about “clarifying it, modernising it, making sure that people know exactly what this is...the law isn’t quite, it isn’t up to date. “It isn’t modern enough.” Sir Keir Starmer earlier said he hopes the change will give people “the confidence to come forward”, in a meeting of police bosses, transport figures and hospitality executives in Downing Street. Ms Davies-Jones and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper were among the attendees at the round-table discussion on Monday morning. Labour pledged in its manifesto to introduce a new offence for spiking, but there was no detail in the King’s Speech this year about a specific crime, though it promised to ensure an improved police response to cases. According to information published by the Metropolitan Police, spiking offences are currently covered by more than one law, but most come under the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. Sir Keir told the meeting: “There are a number of measures that we are setting out this morning – we want to talk it through with you. “The first is to make spiking a specific offence so that it counts, it’s reported.” He said that such a measure would mean that it “enables everybody to have the confidence to come forward” and also “it allows perpetrators to know that it’s a specific offence”. Detailing the training scheme, he went on: “We’re beginning the piloting of training for staff in venues.” He said the scheme would be “partly to spot what’s happening, but also to know what to do in the event that there is an incident in a venue”. “That will start in December with a pilot then it will be rolled out from March of next year,” Sir Keir added. He also said that the “final” point of discussion for the morning was “police indexing – (the) way that we count it across different police forces”. Sir Keir added: “At the moment it’s quite hard to get your arms around the pure numbers.” Plain clothes officers are being deployed in areas around bars and clubs to spot predatory behaviour. The text-to-report number, 61016, that allows women to contact British Transport Police to report harassment on the train, is due to be relaunched. Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Spiking is a disturbing and serious crime which can have a damaging and long-lasting impact on victims. “That’s why today we are taking decisive action to prevent this devastating crime and to crack down on perpetrators, by introducing a new criminal offence for spiking and launching specialist training for thousands of bar staff nationwide. “People shouldn’t have to worry about the safety of their drinks on a night out. “These changes are about giving victims greater confidence to come forward, and ensuring that there is a robust response from the police whenever these appalling crimes take place.”

MSWRR Deputy Minister meets ICRC Resident Representative to MyanmarFrom Okwe Obi, Abuja Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Kukah, has identified nepotism as part of Nigeria’s problem, saying that ministerial appointments among others were often based on personal relationships rather than merit. He also attributed the country’s problem to lack of knowledge, capacity and preparedness of its leaders. The fiery cleric specifically reiterated that the likes of former presidents, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umar Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari came to power unprepared. He, however, said it was unfortunate that millions of Nigerians still battle poverty despite President Bola Tinubu’s “preparedness” to govern the country. Kukah stated this at the fourth Amaka Ndoma-Egba Memorial Lecture, with the theme, “Leaders of tomorrow: Creating lasting change in a complex world,” in Abuja. The wife of former Senate leader, Ndoma Egba, died in an autocrash in Ondo State in 2020. He said: “I do not want to bore you, but run through, from the beginning, you will find out that almost everybody who came to power in Nigeria was as the result of one accident or the other. “President Tinubu, well, he prepared for it. However, we are still trying to get off the ground. But he took over from Buhari, who had already given up. “Buhari took over from Jonathan, who was thinking that after being deputy governor, he would go somewhere else and then something happened. “Jonathan took over from Yar’Adua, who had actually said he was going to teach at Ahmadu Bello University as he was finishing his term as governor. “Yar’Adua took over from Obasanjo, who was in prison, and was not expecting to come out but he somehow found himself out of prison. “Obasanjo took over from Abacha, who, sadly, even though the five political parties had said he would rule forever, was taken by nature. “Abacha took over from Ernest Shonekan, who was busy at the United African Company of Nigeria, and then they told him to come and be head of state. We can go all the way down but fundamental to governance is knowledge.” He reminded political office holders that the benefit of democracy is beyond physical infrastructure like roads, railways, and other projects, but the wellbeing of citizens. According to him, if democracy is solely about infrastructure, people would still be praising authoritarian regimes like Adolf Hitler and apartheid South Africa, which he said built impressive infrastructure during their reigns. “Democracy’s benefits are often not necessarily measurable. They are largely intangible. It is understanding how to expand the frontiers of human imagination,” he stated. He observed that Nigerians are impatient with the current state of democracy in the country, which he noted is hardly working. Kukah stated that despite the country’s little progress, Nigerians are never satisfied. He added that the nation would never be in a perfect place because such places do not exist. He said: “We have made a choice to live with democracy as it is. We know that our democracy is hardly working, although I would make quick to say that we are very impatient with ourselves; very, very impatient. “Nigerians are surprised when I say we have done pretty well. We are absolutely not happy and we will probably never be happy, because that’s not how the world is. You’ve got this, you want this, you want that. We are insatiable. “Now, we are not in a perfect place, because perfect places don’t exist, and we shouldn’t be looking for leaders who will take us to a place of perfection, because nobody has found that kind of place. However, there are minimum conditions that we require in a leader, and I think we need to use them to measure the whole concept of leadership. The bishop stressed the need for leaders to have set goals, boldness, courage, and patriotism, adding that true leadership was about influencing citizens, not just holding office. Meanwhile, Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, commissioned a legacy building in honour of the deceased. NDLEA Chairman, Marwa, who was chairman of the occasion, used the opportunity to expose the students, teachers and even parents to dangers of drug and substance abuse to their lives. He asked the students to eschew actions that could lead them to drug and substance abuse, so they can fully actualise their potential in life.

In a time when these young girls are probably first encountering the terror that is tween school drama, how can they possibly be mentally equipped to take on the social media comment commune?
