In compliance, the Forest Department conducted a grand operation in the Cholistan Range Management Division, targeting the illegal cutting and sale of rare timber. The department carried out multiple raids and intercepted a trailer loaded with stolen timber. The confiscated timber and vehicle were seized under the Forest Act 1927, initiating legal proceedings. The culprits were fined Rs.5.148 million. Additionally, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Cholistan and relevant field staff were suspended for negligence in duty. Strict departmental disciplinary actions have been initiated against the suspended officials, and a high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The committee has been directed to submit a fact-based report within seven days. “This committee will conduct a transparent investigation, free from any external pressure, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.” She highlighted that the government’s recent measures are critical steps toward combating smog. Illegal deforestation not only contributes to smog but also causes soil erosion, climate change, and water scarcity. The government is leveraging modern technologies such as drone surveillance and GIS mapping to protect forests alongside afforestation efforts. Officials said that the Dhaka-bound bus owned by Shyamoli Paribahan of Bangladesh carrying 28 passengers -- 17 Indian and 11 Bangladeshi nationals -- left Agartala on Saturday morning. When the bus reached Ashuganj (in Brahmanbaria), 31 km from the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post, a goods-laden truck tried to overtake it and the bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, leading to a commotion among the local people, the official said. Of the 17 Indian passengers were supposed to go to Kolkata by another bus from Dhaka. Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a social media post said that local residents of Brahmanbaria threatened the Indian passengers travelling on the bus and raised anti-India slogans, made derogatory remarks and even threatened the passengers onboard. Fall is the best time to think about cooking soup. Here’s 5 recipes you’ll want to tryZone focusing is an essential skill to learn, particularly for street, travel, and documentary photography. Even the latest autofocus technology on new expensive cameras can’t beat this method of getting photos quickly and in perfect focus. When you zone focus, you set your lens to manual focus mode—or preferably use a manual focus lens—and preset the focal distance using the distance scale on the lens barrel. You’re creating a zone where your subject will be in focus. Zone focusing is determined by the focal length you shoot with and the aperture you use. The wider your lens, the easier it is to use zone focus. The diagrams below demonstrate this. Let’s assume you focus at 10 ft in front of you. First, if you’re using the very popular and want to shoot at f/4, you actually have very little distance to work with, which means you need to be confident where 10 ft actually is and be really quick to get that shot. If someone is walking fast, that’s a challenge. If we go to f/11, we have more distance to work with, but still, you need to develop some skills here to frame up a shot and grab it. The other consideration is that a 50mm may not be wide enough to get enough of your subject in the frame at shorter distances. My preferred street and general walkabout photography lens is a 28mm. This wider lens gives me 11 ft of distance to work with at f/4, compared to just 3 ft the 50mm offers! With an aperture of f/11, look how much distance I have to work with now. I can let the subject get as close as 4 ft and still have acceptable focus. There are different hyperfocal distance calculators online that can give you an idea of what sort of range your chosen focal length and aperture combination gives you to work with, but they all seem to vary with their results. The best thing is to practice with your own camera and lens. It doesn't take long to figure it out. I find myself constantly looking ahead of me when I go out now—even without a camera—thinking, "Is that subject 10 ft away?" I've programmed my brain to recognize various distances. Not having to worry about focusing allows us to enjoy the experience of photography so much more. We can concentrate on what’s happening and how best to compose a shot to capture a unique moment, reacting stealthily and quickly to compelling scenes without relying on the camera’s autofocus system. Zone focusing is usually discussed in relation to people moving in street photography, but it can be used for all sorts of situations. Even shooting travel photos of fairly static objects, like these fishing boats below, can benefit. I just pointed the camera and framed the shot without the worry of a focus point hunting to find focus. The best way to start zone focusing is to stay static. Maybe sit on a bench and focus on a spot on the ground where you think people will walk and be nicely within the frame. This gets you familiar with what your chosen distance looks like. You can use visual cues, like a crack in the pavement or a lamppost that someone might walk past, to set your focus zone. Once you’ve mastered that, you’ll find yourself walking around constantly trying to figure out what 6 ft or 10 ft in front of you looks like so you can grab shots while walking or while your subject is walking. Even though many street photographers tend to shoot moving subjects while moving themselves, I think it’s best to stop walking if you see an interesting scene in front of you. Even with a shutter speed of 1/1,000 or 1/2,000—my preferred speeds—this does not always result in sharp images. Moving or not, it’s all about practice because it is a skill that needs to be learned to get the best results. Here, I'm slowly walking and my subject is static. To get a sharp image, I shoot with a shutter speed of at least 1/1,000 s. Many modern lenses no longer have a distance scale because they’re designed to be used as autofocus lenses, optimized for the camera’s autofocus tracking technology. Manual third-party lenses are the solution, or older lenses, which have the distance markings we need. With lenses in general, there’s a trend to buy fast primes like f/1.2 these days, with many people new to photography being led to believe the more “bokeh” in a photo, the better it is. This, of course, is nonsense. If you use one for zone focusing wide open, good luck! Because zone focusing requires a good amount of depth of field, this means slower lenses, which means you don’t need to spend a lot of money. My primes are f/2.8, yet I rarely shoot wide open. f/5.6 is my minimum aperture, with a preference for f/8 or f/11. And as a bonus, those slower lenses are smaller and lighter too—perfect for street photography. Are you using zone focusing? Officials in Colorado Springs and Manitou said their special parking promotions are intended to draw visitors to support local businesses during the biggest shopping period of the year. The day after holiday sales kick off on Black Friday, downtown Colorado Springs hosts Small Business Saturday all day on Nov. 30 in one square mile of downtown. Several shops and restaurants will offer sales and specials that day. Additionally, all Colorado Springs city-owned parking garages, lots and meters will be free Thursday to Saturday downtown and in Old Colorado City. "We want to encourage residents and visitors alike to visit downtown Colorado Springs and Old Colorado City to support our wide variety of small businesses during this holiday week," Public Works Director Richard Mulledy, who also oversees the city's parking enterprise, said in a news release Monday. However, the Blue Jays may still get one over on their divisional overlords this offseason. Bob Nightengale reports that Toronto remains one of "only four teams that are seriously in play" to sign the top free agent on the market: Yankees outfielder Juan Soto. Spotrac's market value for Soto points to a contract of fourteen years and north of $500 million. However, many insiders expect that dollar amount to be higher—perhaps much higher. According to multiple reports , Boras anticipates Soto landing a contract that exceeds the $700 million pact Shohei Ohtani inked with the Los Angeles Dodgers last winter. Soto, who just turned 26, earned the fourth All-Star nod of his seven-year big-league career with the Yankees in 2024. Startling admission by defence at bush bash shooting trialLAHORE: A smog clean tower developed by the Punjab Environmental Protection Department in collaboration with the Space of NUST is being installed at Mahmood Booti. This location has been selected due to its high levels of air pollution. The installation and calibration of the tower are underway and will be fully operational by December 21. The tower is designed to purify the air by removing toxic particles, playing a significant role in reducing air pollution in the city. Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has hailed this initiative as a revolutionary step toward environmental protection. She emphasized the importance of utilizing modern technology to address critical issues like smog. According to her, this tower will serve as a model not only for Lahore but for the entire country. The government is taking all possible measures to address environmental challenges. Large-scale operations are being conducted against illegal and pollution-causing sources. In Bhakkar, six non-zigzag kilns were demolished, while one each in Gujrat, Khanewal, and Multan were dismantled, totaling nine kilns. In Lahore, six industrial units, including steel re-rolling mills and steel furnaces, were sealed. Across Punjab, 10 units, including stone crushers, textile mills, and resource recovery units, were shut down. A total of 16 units faced action. Meanwhile, Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has issued strict directives to launch a crackdown against the timber mafia, as illegal deforestation is a significant contributor to smog. In compliance, the Forest Department conducted a grand operation in the Cholistan Range Management Division, targeting the illegal cutting and sale of rare timber. The department carried out multiple raids and intercepted a trailer loaded with stolen timber. The confiscated timber and vehicle were seized under the Forest Act 1927, initiating legal proceedings. The culprits were fined Rs.5.148 million. Additionally, the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) of Cholistan and relevant field staff were suspended for negligence in duty. Strict departmental disciplinary actions have been initiated against the suspended officials, and a high-level inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the matter. The committee has been directed to submit a fact-based report within seven days. “This committee will conduct a transparent investigation, free from any external pressure, and strict action will be taken against those responsible.” She highlighted that the government’s recent measures are critical steps toward combating smog. Illegal deforestation not only contributes to smog but also causes soil erosion, climate change, and water scarcity. The government is leveraging modern technologies such as drone surveillance and GIS mapping to protect forests alongside afforestation efforts. Kejriwal accused Shah of failing to address crime in Delhi , instead allegedly targeting him. In a post on X, Kejriwal wrote, "Amit Shah Ji, what will happen by stopping me? Stop crime in Delhi. Will crime in Delhi decrease by stopping me? Will open shootouts in Delhi stop? Will the women of Delhi become safe? Will the traders of Delhi be secure?" According to police, the AAP Chief was shaking hands with the public when a bus marshal, identified as Ashok Jha, attempted to throw "water" at him. The police immediately apprehended the individual at the scene. The Delhi Police have detained the accused and are questioning him to determine the motive behind the act. (With inputs from agencies.)GUWAHATI: A bus carrying 28 passengers from both India and Bangladesh met with a minor accident on Saturday in Brahmanbaria while the vehicle was travelling towards Dhaka from Agartala. There was no causality. Officials said that the Dhaka-bound bus owned by Shyamoli Paribahan of Bangladesh carrying 28 passengers -- 17 Indian and 11 Bangladeshi nationals -- left Agartala on Saturday morning. When the bus reached Ashuganj (in Brahmanbaria), 31 km from the Agartala-Akhaura Integrated Check Post, a goods-laden truck tried to overtake it and the bus collided with an auto-rickshaw, leading to a commotion among the local people, the official said. Of the 17 Indian passengers were supposed to go to Kolkata by another bus from Dhaka. Tripura Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a social media post said that local residents of Brahmanbaria threatened the Indian passengers travelling on the bus and raised anti-India slogans, made derogatory remarks and even threatened the passengers onboard. Even the latest autofocus technology on new expensive cameras can’t beat this method of getting photos quickly and in perfect focus. When you zone focus, you set your lens to manual focus mode—or preferably use a manual focus lens—and preset the focal distance using the distance scale on the lens barrel. You’re creating a zone where your subject will be in focus. Zone focusing is determined by the focal length you shoot with and the aperture you use. The wider your lens, the easier it is to use zone focus. The diagrams below demonstrate this. Let’s assume you focus at 10 ft in front of you. First, if you’re using the very popular and want to shoot at f/4, you actually have very little distance to work with, which means you need to be confident where 10 ft actually is and be really quick to get that shot. If someone is walking fast, that’s a challenge. If we go to f/11, we have more distance to work with, but still, you need to develop some skills here to frame up a shot and grab it. The other consideration is that a 50mm may not be wide enough to get enough of your subject in the frame at shorter distances. My preferred street and general walkabout photography lens is a 28mm. This wider lens gives me 11 ft of distance to work with at f/4, compared to just 3 ft the 50mm offers! With an aperture of f/11, look how much distance I have to work with now. I can let the subject get as close as 4 ft and still have acceptable focus. There are different hyperfocal distance calculators online that can give you an idea of what sort of range your chosen focal length and aperture combination gives you to work with, but they all seem to vary with their results. The best thing is to practice with your own camera and lens. It doesn't take long to figure it out. I find myself constantly looking ahead of me when I go out now—even without a camera—thinking, "Is that subject 10 ft away?" I've programmed my brain to recognize various distances. Not having to worry about focusing allows us to enjoy the experience of photography so much more. We can concentrate on what’s happening and how best to compose a shot to capture a unique moment, reacting stealthily and quickly to compelling scenes without relying on the camera’s autofocus system. Zone focusing is usually discussed in relation to people moving in street photography, but it can be used for all sorts of situations. Even shooting travel photos of fairly static objects, like these fishing boats below, can benefit. I just pointed the camera and framed the shot without the worry of a focus point hunting to find focus. The best way to start zone focusing is to stay static. Maybe sit on a bench and focus on a spot on the ground where you think people will walk and be nicely within the frame. This gets you familiar with what your chosen distance looks like. You can use visual cues, like a crack in the pavement or a lamppost that someone might walk past, to set your focus zone. Once you’ve mastered that, you’ll find yourself walking around constantly trying to figure out what 6 ft or 10 ft in front of you looks like so you can grab shots while walking or while your subject is walking. Even though many street photographers tend to shoot moving subjects while moving themselves, I think it’s best to stop walking if you see an interesting scene in front of you. Even with a shutter speed of 1/1,000 or 1/2,000—my preferred speeds—this does not always result in sharp images. Moving or not, it’s all about practice because it is a skill that needs to be learned to get the best results. Here, I'm slowly walking and my subject is static. To get a sharp image, I shoot with a shutter speed of at least 1/1,000 s. Many modern lenses no longer have a distance scale because they’re designed to be used as autofocus lenses, optimized for the camera’s autofocus tracking technology. Manual third-party lenses are the solution, or older lenses, which have the distance markings we need. With lenses in general, there’s a trend to buy fast primes like f/1.2 these days, with many people new to photography being led to believe the more “bokeh” in a photo, the better it is. This, of course, is nonsense. If you use one for zone focusing wide open, good luck! Because zone focusing requires a good amount of depth of field, this means slower lenses, which means you don’t need to spend a lot of money. My primes are f/2.8, yet I rarely shoot wide open. f/5.6 is my minimum aperture, with a preference for f/8 or f/11. And as a bonus, those slower lenses are smaller and lighter too—perfect for street photography. Are you using zone focusing?
